Youth Model ASEAN Conference (YMAC) 2026

Singapore Polytechnic, through Singapore Polytechnic International (SPI), successfully delivered the Youth Model ASEAN Conference (YMAC) 2026, welcoming nearly 60 outstanding student delegates from more than 14 overseas Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs).

Held as a five-day programme comprising both a preparatory virtual session and an in-person conference in Singapore, YMAC brought together emerging youth leaders from across the ASEAN region. The conference was designed to develop critical competencies such as leadership, diplomacy, communication, and cross-cultural collaboration through immersive, experiential learning approaches.

At the heart of YMAC was a dynamic simulation of ASEAN processes, where delegates took on the roles of regional leaders to address real-world issues. Through structured debates, negotiations, and consensus-building, participants gained a deeper understanding of the “ASEAN Way” and the complexities of regional cooperation.

Centred on the theme “Strengthening ASEAN”, the conference encouraged delegates to explore key regional challenges and collaboratively propose solutions that reflect unity, resilience, and shared progress.

Beyond formal discussions, YMAC provided a vibrant platform for cultural exchange and regional networking. Delegates interacted closely with peers from diverse backgrounds, fostering mutual understanding and forming meaningful connections that extend beyond the conference.

Shao Di Tâm from NTTU (Vietnam) reflected on how the experience reshaped her perspective:

“One of the most memorable parts of YMAC for me was meeting people from other ASEAN countries. Previously, I always thought about going to Europe or America, and never really considered building connections within ASEAN. This experience changed my perspective. It showed me the value of collaborating within our own region.”

She also shared how the conference fostered deeper cultural appreciation and friendships across the region:

Through intensive discussions, teamwork, and exposure to diverse perspectives, delegates strengthened key skills including critical thinking, public speaking, and collaborative problem-solving. The experience also enhanced their global awareness and prepared them for future academic and professional pathways.

Many participants shared that the conference inspired them to pursue further opportunities in ASEAN-related initiatives, internships, and cross-border collaborations.

SPI’s delivery of YMAC 2026 reflects its ongoing commitment to fostering global partnerships and nurturing future-ready talent. By bringing together high-calibre students from across the region, SPI continues to play a vital role in building bridges between institutions and empowering youth to become active contributors to ASEAN’s future.
