Healthcare Innovation Workshop & Learning Journey

Singapore Polytechnic International, in partnership with User Experience Centre (UXC) facilitators, recently hosted 27 fourth-year medical students and two professors from the Faculty of Medicine, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Thailand, for an immersive Healthcare Innovation Workshop and Learning Journey.

The programme was conducted through onsite experiential workshops and learning journeys, designed for fourth-year medical students and faculty members seeking exposure to practical healthcare innovation and human-centred design.

Experiencing Human-Centred Healthcare

Participants explored Singapore’s healthcare landscape through visits to Yishun Community Hospital, where the “Humanitude Care” approach creates a restraint-free, compassionate environment, and Kampung Admiralty, a pioneering integrated development combining residential units, medical facilities, and green spaces. These visits provided hands-on insights into how human-centred design and sustainable practices enhance patient care and community well-being.

Engaging Through Design Thinking

Students collaborated in workshops such as “SHINE-STUCK-SPARKS” to identify gaps and opportunities within the healthcare ecosystem. Working in project teams, they refined preliminary healthcare concepts developed in Thailand, incorporating feedback from Singaporean users. The experience encouraged creativity, cross-industry thinking, and the application of universal design principles to create accessible, functional solutions.

Expanding Horizons and Impact

The programme broadened students’ research perspectives beyond Thailand, pioneering a humanity-centred approach to healthcare innovation. It emphasized practical application, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving that participants can adapt to projects in their own communities.

This initiative reflects SPI’s commitment to cultivating future healthcare innovators capable of creating solutions that positively impact communities and healthcare systems.
